Menthidli/menthi idli (fenugreek idli)

Ingredients:
grain rice 2cups
fenugreek seeds 1/2 cup
soda-bi-carb 1/2tsp
salt to taste
ghee
Method of preparation:
grind rice into coarse powder or use biyyam rawa.
soak it in few cups of water for 4-5 hours.
soak fenugreek seeds for 12-14hours.
now grind the soaked fenugreek seeds into smooth paste.
drain the water from rawa and add the paste.
this can be stored in fridge for few days.
when required add pinch of soda-bi-carb and salt to it and pour the batter into idli moulds and steam.
blush with ghee and serve with karam podi.

That looks fluffy and delicious. I would like to try it. Does it taste very bitter 'coz of the fenugreek?
@mika... a sort of but not bittersome....if u like the taste of fenugreek am sure u wud love this...
@jayashree...biyyam rawa is nothing but rice pounded coursely(dont grind it too fine or too coarse)..something similar to sugar crystals :) u can just grind a handful of rice in a mixer.
u can add water if the batter is too solid but no buttermilk. soda-bi-carb is to make them fluffy. too much of it or too little of it is dangerous.
I like the color of it Raji. Will be trying it shortly. You mentioned Karam podi, how do you make it? Andhra dishes are one of my favorites. Cheers!
